Money Matters, Ask Your Wellbeing

The new year always brings new resolution, need for change and improvement for ourselves. Two popular areas of focus are physical and mental wellness, and financial stability. Many professionals in both industries believe in maintaining balance and good physical health, one should start by focusing on their economic well-being.

Financial Well-Being Contributes to Personal Success

Poor financial management can affect many aspects of our life with the most significant threat being to our overall physical fitness. Understanding where to get started is vital. It’s suggested to take financial advice from a trained financial specialist. We trust our medical appointments and preventive care to healthcare professionals in their field of expertise, so it makes sense to seek assistance from a financial professional.

Money sets the infrastructure for our survival. Financial well-being should allow us to pay our bills and save many for future activities or emergencies. When we experience proper financial planning, we find ourselves with extra money from time-to-time to pamper ourselves and others in our life. Now, other aspects of our life will begin to come into focus once we are not experiencing the stress caused by our financial struggles. At this point, we can start to focus on the other facets of our physical health and well-being.

There are many steps to get started to put our finances in order. While they will not all be solved in this article, we hope to bring awareness to the link between financial well-being, and good physical and mental health. Make a move to improve finances, and the see positive changes in other aspects of life.

A great place to get started is understanding our credit score and our options. There are so many decisions made in our lives that begin with our credit standing, including car insurance. And, today more than ever there are resources, advisors and education portals to point us in the right direction, regardless of our current status.

What is in a number?

According to Experian there is a lot in a number. For a score with a range between 300-850, a credit score of 700 or above is generally considered good. A score of 800 or above on the same range is considered to be excellent. Most credit scores fall between 600 and 750. Higher scores represent better credit decisions and can make creditors more confident that you will repay your future debts as agreed.

Experian further advises, credit scores are used by lenders, including banks providing mortgage loans, credit card companies, and even car dealerships financing auto purchases, to make decisions about whether or not to offer your credit (such as a credit card or loan) and what the terms of the offer (such as the interest rate or down payment) will be. There are many different types of credit scores. FICO® Scores and scores by VantageScore are two of the most common types of credit scores, but industry-specific scores also exist.

Be an Observer in Your Own Life

10/19/2018

Last Month, we covered Spanning the Dimensions: Is Your Wellbeing in Order? The four dimensions of wellbeing addressed were: Physical, Emotional, Nutritional, and Medical. Today we will cover the importance of emotional wellbeing and the importance of YOU! We have selected to discuss ‘be an observer in your own life.’

What happens when you take personal responsibility for learning about how you think and feel (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually)? What if you could figure out ‘triggers,’ signs or patterns to shed light on how you could help yourself and those around you - live the best life possible?

You ‘live’ your life, basically, by how you process information, choose to take action and devise a course to work for you and how you process data in and out. Your reactions will run the gamut of happiness (short or long term), disappointment, emotional or physical pain and suffering, acceptance or rejection of responsibility for the result, and possibly stubbornness in considering changing the way they approach a situation. Einstein shared a definition of insanity along those lines. Right?

This life lesson consists of simple tools to create and live your best life on all levels. It provides the framework to learn about you. Ready?

Be an observer in your own life.
It’s amazing what you can learn about others and more importantly about yourself when you slow down and just ‘observe.’ It’s a simple first step towards caring for yourself. Remember, if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t show up completely to live your best life, or offer your best at work life, social and to be there for others.

How you act/react consciously or unconsciously, helps you to figure out the ‘triggers’, when tripped inside of you, set off a chain reaction causing you to jump to conclusions or say something better left unsaid. You have ‘data points’; ways to calm your nervous system, bring health and well-being into your life and find a route to create a new balance in your life.

Stop at least three times a day to ‘observe’ yourself. Put your ‘technology’ aside, stand still and consciously ‘feel’ what’s happening in your body and your mind. Recall the last ‘thought’ you had before you stopped to ‘observe.’

Keep in mind ‘consistency’ is the key towards getting the most out of this exercise; we know the more we repeat an action, the more it will become a habit. Yes, you read right, start creating a habit of observing yourself and noting what you’re feeling, sensing, and thinking. It’s going to be invaluable.

Have fun on your journey to learn more about your inner and outer self; work to develop a plan of action to create your best life.

Remember, healthy employees, make happy, productive, interactive team members in the organization. To develop and maintain a wellness program can be demanding, this is where Meliora can work alongside you and your organization to build the ideal wellness platform to meet your overall wellness goals to shift your company culture.

No worries, we’ve got your back! We found this quote, we thought is a befitting tagline: “When ‘I’ is replaced with ‘We,’ even ‘Illness’ becomes ‘Wellness.’ If you need help on how to implement an employee wellness program, let’s connect. We’d love to learn more about you and your needs. We look forward to working with you!

Spanning the Dimensions: Is Your Wellbeing in Order?

10/3/2018

Last month we discussed Keyword: Wellness, which focused on the importance of taking a look at all dimensions of wellness and the definition of wellness being the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.

Wellness is essential to all of us. Many things in life can be a trigger to shift the focus from our wellbeing to other things we believe are more important, including taking care of others before you take care of yourself. Financial challenges can have more of an affect on your overall health then you might realize. Your eating habits can have an impact in your sleep habits. Good mental health is equally essential for your own state-of-mind, and includes your relationship with those around you - family members, friends, co-workers and neighbors, etc.

The most important  dimensions are Physical, Emotional, Nutritional, and Medical; let’s take a closer look:

1. Physical
Your body is the machine which moves us from A-Z through life. Daily activity is good for the mind, body and spirit. While physical fitness is important to keep your body well maintained. It can also keep you mind focused and conditioned to the routine. Which in turn will make you feel better and increase your mood and spirit. You will find strength and endurance you never knew existed.

2. Emotional
Your mental state of mind can be the driving force for all other situations in your life. One should manage their outcomes, by first acknowledging if any mental health issues exist within yourself or within family members, and then seeking help. 99% of the time you wouldn’t think there was anything wrong, however the 1% will let you know. For the best outcome, seek a mental health care professional to receive advice and consultation.

3. Nutritional
Nutrition is critical to your wellness. For optimal performance good nutrition is highly recommended. Food intake, hydration and a balanced diet can give you the energy, clarity and strength you need to perform your daily task. Staying nutritionally balanced will assist in staying focused on your physical conditioning. Ensure you are getting your vitamins and minerals each day as well.

4. Medical
Maintaining annual doctor visits is the key to maintaining your overall health and wellbeing. You are able to prevent getting sick, future illness and pre-diagnosis. Understanding any prescription medication and following doctors and instructions provided on the medications is critical to avoid overuse causing future issues. Another recommendation is to have a first aid kit in order and easily accessible to you and your family.

The dimensions of wellness are interconnected; pay attention to all for good life balance. All aspects interweave when considering one’s core wellness. Each dimension is fundamental in the quest for optimal health. One can reach a significant level of wellness by understanding how to maintain and optimize each of the aspects of wellness. Assisting everyone in achieving their ‘actively pursued goal.’

Meliora provides the services to assist your population in spanning the dimensions of wellness that are critical to their overall wellbeing. Let, be your solution to develop the platform that allows employees to make their choices and focus on the wellness solution(s) that is right for them.
