Creating a Healthy Workforce
Creating a healthier workforce increases productivity and lowers health care costs. Meloria's Platform can create that healthy workforce with tools that encourage wellness and participation, while letting you easily gather the data your company needs.

Employees will have the tools and resources they need to get healthy, stay healthy, and avoid chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.

Fifty-six percent of large employers with wellness programs offer employees financial incentives, and 23 percent link these incentives to health outcomes, according to a 2014 national survey of employer-based health plans by the benefits consultant Mercer.

With the Meliora Platform, you have access to cutting edge tools, reports, and analytics to provide your team with the data points critical to establishing a wellness strategy that will help your employees work from a solid foundation to improve their health outcomes.

Employers benefit from having healthy employees. Employees benefit from being healthy and having the tools and access to their health data to help them address and maintain personal wellness.

Incentives

Of course you care about the health of your employees on a personal level, but wellness programs do much more. Just consider the practical reasons: Soon after starting your company's wellness program, you should see improvements in attendance and fewer sick days. Wellness programs also reduce the number of work-related injuries. That means fewer workers compensation claims, which saves both you and your insurer money. A more reliable workforce will inevitably translate into a smoother work cycle and a more robust bottom line.

With the Meliora platform, you have options available to develop your wellness strategy. Our incentive module provides employers with the following :
  • The incentive module is highly configurable; employer groups can configure incentive events, earning periods, expiration of points and/or awards, redemption of points and/or awards, and more to design a program that fits their company’s culture and interests. The incentive module allows the employer to choose the type of incentive program to offer their participants.

The employer may choose to have incentives with or without points and awards. The employer has the option to choose points or awards as the goal for the participant during a specified time with the wellness strategy.
  • The incentive module resides within the scorecard section of the participant portal and the participant dashboard To Do List. Participants have access to points and awards history on secondary pages and within their My Account area. This module provides the flexibility to design, implement, and edit a wellness strategy in real time.

The 2014 national survey of employer-based health plans by the benefits consultant Mercer concluded that employers are expanding their corporate wellness programs, spending an average of $693 per employee on incentives in 2015, up from $595 in 2014 and $430 five years ago, according to a survey by Fidelity Investments and the National Business Group on Health, a nonprofit based in the District of Columbia.

The survey found that more employers are using incentives -- cash, gift cards, reduced health care premiums, or contributions to a health care account -- to encourage employees to participate in biometric screenings, health risk assessments, and physical activity programs. Fewer employers are using employee disincentives for not participating, yet less than half of employees earned their full incentive amount in 2014.

What's the Best Way Forward?

What’s the Best Way Forward?

To create the most beneficial wellness program, you must begin with the needs of your employees, the company culture and structure, and the resources available. Take a wide view of health and find areas where you can encourage behavioral change.

A methodical process is essential. You must have clear and measurable goals. You must also have action plans to meet those goals. Identify the employees you want to reach and decide the best way to proceed. Programs need continued evaluation to make sure you get the most out of it. Improve your program by speaking with wellness experts. And remember your employees. Start a dialogue to ensure they feel like they are part of the process. Their ideas and individual needs will help develop a program that they want to participate in. Change throughout an organization starts when people at the top change. Without good leadership, your wellness won't stay afloat, no matter how well your program is designed.

If your organization already knows the importance of a strong wellness program — that's great! If you're are considering implementing a wellness program but aren't sure, keep reading. Once you're convinced, put in the effort to build and improve it. Don't forget that your team and their health and happiness is your most valuable investment. Your organization will collect the dividends far into the future.
