Everyone should be aware when it comes to eye health and safety. This is a great reminder for everyone, not just children, to schedule an annual eye exam.
Most moms can confirm that taking care of their kids is a priority and they often do not do the things necessary or required to take care themselves. Well, a good rule of thumb or reminder might be, when you do things for your child or grandchild's well being, let it be a reminder to you, that it's time for you to take care of yourselves.
Conveniently, the Solar Eclipse made us all aware of how sensitive our eyes are and how easily they can be damaged. If you or someone you love might have overexposed their eyes to the Solar Eclipse, you should certainly get to your optometrist right away.
A recent study indicated many adults are not current on their annual eye exam or as recommended by their eye care physician. Adult and youth education is needed when it comes to facts about eye health and the importance of regular eye exams.
According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, 64 percent of adults over the age of 40 experiences one or more of the following concerns with their eyes or vision:
• Struggle to see at night
• Blurry vision
• Double vision
• Reading up close
• Flashes of light
• Blood shot eyes
• Watery eyes
Even with being subjected to some level of deficiency, only 15 percent declared they had been seen by an eye care professional. Most Ophthalmologists recommend a healthy adult have a baseline eye exam at 40 years old, with or without a history of eye problems or eye disease. People with chronic conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, may require more frequent exams. Seniors over 65, who are concerned with the cost or lack of health insurance, the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s EyeCare America program offers eligible seniors a comprehensive eye exam and up to one year of treatment at no out-of-pocket cost.
