
On the wellness front, February is American Heart Month and Oral Hygiene Month. We will share articles that focus on both and keep you "pumped" and informed. Equally important, there are specific days throughout the month giving us the opportunity to bring you mini-history lessons and some fun facts.
Did you know? February zodiac signs are Aquarius (until the 19th) and Pisces (the 20th and forward). The birth flower is the violet associated with royalty and majesty. The birthstone is the amethyst that is a symbol of sincerity, reverence, humility and spiritual wisdom. The month is named after the Latin word februum that means purification. January and February were the last of the months inserted into the Roman calendar.
February it is the shortest month of the year, the only month to have less than 30 days. The month has 28 days in common years (having 365 days) and 29 days in a leap year; the quadrennial 29th day is called leap day. The next leap day will be February 29, 2020. With 28 days in the common years, it is the only month that can pass without a full moon. Last time this occurred was in 1999 and the next time will be 2018. February is the third month of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and is the last month of summer in the Southern Hemisphere.
